Income tax notices & refunds

Help understanding and replying to income tax notices and intimations, filing rectifications and revised returns, and following up refunds that are delayed or failed.

Pricing: On request

An income tax notice in your inbox is unsettling, but most of them come down to a mismatch that can be explained or corrected. The same goes for refunds that seem stuck.

This service helps you understand what the department is asking, find the cause, and reply properly and on time. Refund problems are followed up until they are resolved. Nothing is filed without your approval, and no outcome is promised.

Who it’s for

  • Anyone who received an email or SMS about an income tax notice and isn't sure what it means
  • Taxpayers whose intimation shows a demand they don't agree with
  • People told their return is "defective" and needs a correction
  • Anyone whose refund is delayed, adjusted against an old demand, or failed to credit

What’s included

  • Reading the notice or intimation with you and explaining, in plain words, what is being asked and by when
  • Checking the figures against your return, Form 26AS and AIS to find the cause of a mismatch or demand
  • Preparing and submitting the response on the income tax portal, after you approve it
  • Filing a rectification request or a revised or updated return, where that is the right fix
  • Following up refunds, including bank account pre-validation and refund re-issue requests

Scope is agreed with you before work starts. Anything outside it is quoted separately.

Process and timeline

  1. Step 1: Share the notice

Send the notice and the return it relates to. The deadline is checked first, so nothing is missed.

  2. Step 2: Understand the cause

The figures are compared with your return, 26AS and AIS, and you get a short explanation of what went wrong and the options.

  3. Step 3: You approve the reply

The response, rectification or revised return is drafted and shared with you. Nothing is submitted without your go-ahead.

  4. Step 4: Submitted and followed up

The reply is filed on the income tax portal and the status is tracked until the matter is closed or the refund is issued.

Typical timeline. Simple intimations and defective-return corrections can often be handled within a few working days. Refund re-issues and rectifications depend on the department's processing time. Complex notices are quoted and planned case by case.

Pricing: On request

The fee depends on your case: how many income sources or invoices there are, how organised the documents are and how often the work repeats. Share a few details and you’ll get a clear quote before any work starts.

Questions about Income tax notices & refunds

I got an income tax notice. Should I panic?

Usually not. Many notices are automated intimations or requests for a small correction. What matters is reading it carefully and replying before the due date. Share it and you'll get a plain-English explanation first.

Can you guarantee the demand will be dropped?

No. The outcome is decided by the Income Tax Department. What you can expect is a careful check of the facts and a clear, well-documented reply.

Why hasn't my refund arrived?

Common reasons are a bank account that isn't pre-validated on the income tax portal, a PAN-Aadhaar linking problem, or the refund being adjusted against an older demand. The refund status on the portal usually shows which one.

How do I know a notice is genuine?

Genuine notices can be verified on the income tax portal using the document identification number (DIN). Never pay money to anyone claiming to settle a notice over the phone.
